For my first posting assignment I chose to do a writing assignment. The assignment I chose was to write out a future history of my life. Here is what I came up with:
Graduate of Washington State University, Megan Thompson comes from an exceptional background in sports and market within them. Native of Walla Walla Washington, Thompson began her first start in sports marketing as an intern for the marketing and promotions department for Washington State Athletics. Coming into the department as a freshman gave many people doubts, but Thompson proved herself to be perfect for the job as she excelled with learning how the industry works. By following directions and being efficient during football season, Thompson was promoted to a lead intern position for Men’s Basketball. She then nailed her first marketing position at the University of Auburn as an associate marketing director. She received her masters degree in Graphic Design within her first two years at Auburn. Here she kept with the traditions of the school, but wanted something more challenging. Thompson then took a position assisting prior big 12 commissioner Dan Bebee and his consultant team, The Dan Bebee Group. Here she worked on promoting the company to different professional and college programs as to why they should hire this consulting group. Megan then received her position that she currently holds; Chief Operating Officer of the Rose Bowl. Here she manages client relations, markets the venue, as well as over sees day to day operations at the stadium in Pasadena California.
I chose this assignment because I am very future forward as well career driven. These future plans that I wrote about are actually real goals for myself and I hope to fulfill them. Many students don’t have an idea of what they would like to do in their life, which is fine, and I can see this being more challenging for other. On the other hand, this was not as challenging for me because I know where I want my life to be in 30+ years.
Now, will this idealistically happen? Probably not in such a specific order. I know my dream job, but the step to get there can change any day. I am lucky enough to have started getting experience in my undergraduate that I will not have to take 4 steps backward to get 2 steps forward. This assignment is effective because it forces students to think about their future and where they want to be successful. Many of us know we need a college degree but not sure what we want to do with that degree. If we are forced to write down some type of idea about our future we are more likely to follow through with these plans.
