Make My Day

When I try and think of my perfect day, there is only one place I would want to be and that is at The Gorge. I have had many great times at The Gorge but these photos are from my weekend at Dave Matthews Band. The day starts off with drinking Dave’s wine with my best friend Meredith in the top left corner then it continues across the top with our group posing for a picture after a long day of having fun in the campsite. Right after that photo was taken we went into the concert and that is where the third photo comes in of me and my sister. We are at the main stage at The Gorge and the openers are playing. The other group shot on the bottom row is again of our friends but this time it is at night after a night of dancing. I love this picture because we all look so happy. This really was one of my favorite days I have experienced so far. The very last photo is of the main stage with Dave Matthews Band performing at the end of sunset. There are really very few views that I have seen myself that can top this one and that is why this would be my perfect day. Not only does a day at The Gorge make my day perfect in itself but DMB is one of my favorite bands to see live, the way that they jam on stage is so much fun to watch. A day at The Gorge, waking up in a tent, drinking, seeing live music with my friends and seeing a breathtaking view all adds up to make my perfect day.

What’s in your bag?

I decided to do the assignment, What’s In Your Bag? I had just emptied out my backpack for the weekend, so what I have left in my bag was my glasses, my computer, chap stick, debit card/cougar card and my water bottle. I do not have many items in my bag currently but these are all most important to me. I do all my school work on my computer, I never write notes handwritten anymore, I frequently buy food on campus so my cards are important. I obviously need my glasses to see so they are important, as well as my water bottle. My water bottle is my favorite thing in my bag, it is a Hydroflask bottle and I don’t know what I would do without it. These essential items definitely get me through the day.

I liked this assignment because it made me realize what items I value most and can’t go without in my backpack. I am not sure why this assignment “matters” or what its “effectiveness” is towards. But it was a fun, simple assignment and it is interesting to share.

Writing Assignment

“Share a quote (or quotes) from a reading you’ve done and explain what interests you about it. “

“I have been envious of male characteristics, if not the men themselves. I’m jealous of the ease with which they seem to inhabit their professional pursuits: the lack of apologizing, of bending over backward to make sure the people around them are comfortable with what they’re trying to do. The fact that they are so often free of the people-pleasing instincts I have considered to be a curse of my female existence.”
― Lena Dunham, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned”

The quote I chose is from Lena Dunham’s book, Not That Kind of Girl. The reason why I chose this quote is because I think it is very important and relevant right now. It has been a battle that has continued over many many years, and that is that women need to be seen as equals to men, whether it is in day to day interactions or in the workplace. Lena brings up a point that makes me wonder, if maybe perhaps the nurturing way women are takes away some peoples respect for them in a serious professional situation. This also made me think back to when Dr. Whitson had said about how female professors sometimes try and dress more formally than male professors. It all comes back down to people’s perception of other people. I think that this assignment is effective. I had always liked this quote but this assignment actually made me dive deeper into why I liked it and in turn made me think more about what this quote actually means and what it means to me.
